IMPRES: Smart Accessories to Boost Performance

Motorola’s industry-exclusive IMPRES accessory portfolio brings intelligent energy and audio solutions that help two-way radio systems perform at their peak, giving professionals the peace of mind that they’ll always be in touch.

IMPRES Smart Energy System

Motorola IMPRES

Designed and tested to operate in extreme conditions, the IMPRES Smart Energy System enables the battery, charger and other accessory devices to communicate with each other, automating battery maintenance so users can get on with the job without having to worry about how much talk time they have left.

The system works to reduce memory effect, optimise the cycle life of the battery and maximise talk time, boosting workforce productivity by ensuring radios are charged and ready to go when needed. All you have to do is place the battery in the charger.

IMPRES batteries have the intelligence to store information such as elapsed usage time, charge and discharge current, voltage and temperature. The IMPRES charger uses this information to determine whether to charge or recondition the battery.

As with conventional chargers, the IMPRES Smart Energy System uses both a rapid and trickle/maintenance charge sequence. But that’s where the similarities end. IMPRES matches charge currents to each battery and shuts off charge current after trickle charge, continuing to monitor the battery status periodically.

If the battery capacity drops below a predetermined level, rapid charging restarts. This allows batteries to be left in the charger without any fear of them heating up or being damaged - an important feature for radios that need to be kept on stand-by. In addition, by charging and maintaining batteries at their optimum level, the life cycle of the battery is extended, ensuring reliability and enhancing worker safety.

The IMPRES Smart Energy System works with nickel-cadmium, nickel-metal hydride and lithium-ion batteries. IMPRES Chargers report the following information for all chemistries in a two-line display:
• Battery serial number, kit number, and chemistry
• Battery charge capacity in milliamp hours (mAh)
• Battery charge capacity as a percentage of rated capacity
• Battery voltage
• Estimated battery capacity at end of charge in mAh
• Time remaining to complete rapid charge cycle (NiCd and NiMH only)
• Notification when a battery is approaching reconditioning

IMPRES Battery Reader

Motorola IMPRES

With the IMPRES Battery Reader, users are able to download information regarding battery charging, reconditioning and usage. Advanced diagnostics provide a graphical history of battery usage that indicates current charge capacity, the number of times a battery was charged and reconditioned, overall usage and the age of the battery. This assists users to keep batteries in top condition and optimises talk time, cycle life and battery life.

The Battery Reader also gives an estimated total of non-IMPRES charge cycles, which helps warranty claims to be tracked and provides insight into potential battery problems.

IMPRES Audio Accessories for MOTOTRBO

Motorola IMPRES

Building on its ground-breaking IMPRES technology, Motorola’s MOTOTRBO platform is the first to offer intelligent IMPRES audio accessories for outstanding voice clarity, volume and intelligibility.

Background noise, clothing, microphone placement and variations in microphone audio performance can all impact on the quality of audio. In some cases, listeners may miss what has been said or misinterpret transmitted audio which can have serious consequences, particularly when users are performing critical tasks.

With IMPRES audio accessories, professionals can benefit from optimised output, thanks to MOTOTRBO’s ability to fine-tune the source audio signal using gain normalisation, filtering and other performance-boosting algorithms.

Each IMPRES audio accessory stores information about the characteristics of the accessory. When a user attaches the accessory, the MOTOTRBO radio reads the accessory characteristics and adjusts audio levels accordingly. In this way, audio output is optimised for each type of audio accessory used. The system is even intelligent enough to compensate for users who are turned away from the microphone, adjusting output so that they can be heard clearly.

Noise suppression capabilities are able to reduce the amount of background noise and further improve clarity, reducing listener fatigue for users working in high-noise environments and enhancing efficiency.

IMPRES is part of the comprehensive suite of Motorola Original accessories which gives customers assurance that they comply with our stringent standards for quality and reliability as well as our warranty conditions.
